Zeng Gong presided over the construction of Zeng embankment and wrote some poems praising Jinan.
Jinan is an ancient city that has a long history and a splendid culture. Our ancestors had thrived in this land as early as 9,000 years ago. In the
Han Dynasty, this region was classified as an administrative county and was named Jinan, so the name of the city has been handed down
thenceforth. Renowned as the “city of springs” and the “capital of springs”, Jinan is an enchanting city with its own unique characteristics of
spectacular spring scenery.
Prominent poets of different dynasties, including Li Bai, Du Fu, Su Shi, Su Zhe, Zeng Gong, Yuan Haowen, Zhao Mengfu, Wang Shizhen
and etc., traveled to or worked in the city. Great poets like Li Qingzhao, Xin Qiji, Zhang Yanghao, Yu Shenxing and Li Panlong were born here.
Generations of eminent persons created literary masterpieces eulogizing the local scenery and customs. Poetic charm has indeed been the central
theme of Jinan, making the city in northern China earn the reputation for looking as elegant as we would expect from areas in southern China.
