Baotu Spring Lantern Festival has a long history. The custom of lighting up lanterns in Baotu Spring was initiated in the
Tang Dynasty when the fifteenth day of the first lunar month was officially designated as Lantern Festival by Emperor
Xuanzong. People in Jinan are accustomed to going to the scenic spot to see the illuminations, which is widely
accepted as a must-do during the Spring Festival holiday.
